Pre-Apprenticeship Training

The Manufacturing Academy (MA), sponsored by the Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee (AJAC) offers a solid foundational career pathway into aerospace and advanced manufacturing apprenticeship opportunities. This 10-12 week, recognized pre-apprenticeship program is currently offered in 3 locations in Washington State. Manufacturing Academy students will learn both soft skills and technical skills to include but not limited to applied math, assembly, introductory machining, blueprint reading, welding, interview techniques, and industry tours with AJAC partnering companies. Upon completion, students will have the basic foundational skills to find gainful entry-level employment and may meet the minimum qualifications to pursue additional career pathways in advanced manufacturing through AJAC’s portfolio of apprenticeship programs.

Program Locations & Start Dates

Note: To become a Manufacturing Academy student, you must attend a mandatory orientation at the location you would like to enroll in. For the Summer 2020 Cohort, class and orientation will be held online.  

Seattle, Washington

  • Location: South Seattle College—Georgetown Campus (6770 East Marginal Way S. Building A, Room 122 Seattle, WA 98108).
  • Structure of Program: Online Only for Summer 2020
  • Class Requirement: Reliable Internet Access
  • Orientation Date: TBD. Summer cohort will complete orientation online.
  • Class Start Date: June 23, 2020 | 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • Length of Program: 10 Weeks (Monday – Friday)

Kent, Washington

  • Location: Advanced Manufacturing Prep Training Center (8605 South 212th St. Kent, WA 98031)
  • Structure of Program: Online Only for Summer 2020
  • Class Requirement: Reliable Internet Access
  • Orientation Date: TBD. Summer cohort will complete orientation online.
  • Class Start Date: June 23, 2020 | 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • Length of Program: 10 Weeks (Monday – Friday)

With the Manufacturing Academy, you will:

 Develop skills to succeed in the industry including:
    • Effective communication, resume writing, interviewing and job application assistance
    • Math for manufacturing
    • Blueprint reading
    • Receive training from industry professionals
    • Earn college credits
    • Obtain insight about career pathways; including education and apprenticeship opportunities
    • Tour local advanced manufacturing companies (pending company approval)

Your Pathway into the Skilled Trades:

  1. Complete an online application
  2. After your application is submitted, AJAC’s Apprenticeship Navigator will contact you to secure your spot at the next two-day orientation
  3. After you complete the two-day orientation, you will official enroll as a Manufacturing Academy student.
  4. Upon completion of the program, students will receive their industry certifications and a Manufacturing Academy Certificate of Completion.
